The Maybell Women's Club realized the need for a library in this community in 1911. There was no library in Craig at that time. With a few donated books and magazines, the library was started in the home of Mrs. Charlie (Dolly) Wyatt, who used space in the corner of her living room and acted as librarian. With the sale of library cards, food sales, and bazaars hosted by the club, more books were purchased and the library grew steadily.

The Maybell Women's Club purchased the Bank building in 1934. The building was used as community recreation hall. Dances, the Maybell Plays, meetings, weddings and other community functions were held there. A stage, a kitchen and a room for the library were added. Many women in the club served as librarians during the time the library was located here. The supply of books grew and more shelves were added. Soon this small room was filled to overflowing and more room was needed. The club sold the building in 1956.

The library was moved into the Maybell Congregational Church building until another more permanent location could be found.

A small building, formerly used as a bunkhouse by the Moffat County Road Department, was loaned to the club for use as a library in 1960.

An unused schoolhouse from Dry Lake had been moved to Maybell for use as a teacherage. In 1971, when the teacherage was no longer used, the Moffat County School District donated it to the Maybell Women's Club and the library was moved into the former teacherage. The library soon out grew that building and Colo-Wyo donated a single-wide trailer which was used in conjunction with the former treacherage, to house the children's books, mysteries and records. When the library moved into their present site, the former tearcherage became the Maybell Community Center. In 1975 the Moffat County Commissioners began budgeting the Maybell Library $1000.00 per year.
In 1983 two unused former classroom modulars became available from the Moffat County School District. These were moved to Maybell and joined together and they have housed the library since.

In the mid 1980's the Maybell Library was accepted as a branch of the Craig Library and Maybell Women's Club is no longer the sole benefactor although we continue to support the Maybell Library with both funding and volunteering. The Dinosaur, CO library also became a branch of the Craig Library and all three are now known as the Moffat County Libraries.

The Bank of Maybell was opened in 1918.
The ad in the paper said: THE BANK OF MAYBELL "The Bank That Takes Care of Its Customers"
W.T Smith, President, Z. B Maudlin, Vice President, JNO.B. Wills, Cashier. Directors were Z. B. Maudlin, W. T. Smith, W. T. Stillings, W. P. Wagner, and Jno B. Wills. The Maybell Bank was opened in 1918. The bank was open for business four or five years. It went out of business because the cashier ran away with the money.
The building was then used as a residence for several years. The Maybell Women's Club purchased it for a library. Later, an addition was added for the library, and the old part was used for a dance and recreational hall. A new stage was built and the school children gave their school programs there.*
The original old bank building sitting empty, is still there, but covered over with siding. It is said that if a person were to remove the siding, they would see the original sign that was on the bank.
